Cowgirls 14 Chapman 4 (5 Innings)
The Abilene Cowgirls used a big second inning to break open their Game 1 victory over Chapman Tuesday night at the Bill Gravette Sports Complex in Abilene. In the inning, the Cowgirls batted 12 batters and scored 8 runs. They went on to add 4 more runs in the 3rd and 2 in the 4th to put the game out of reach. Chapman scored 3 in the top of the 5th but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Irish were run ruled.
Senior, Brynna Ade pitched the distance for Abilene. She scattered 5 hits over 5 innings. Junior, Emma Wildman went 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored while Seniors, Autumn Fitzgerald and Ashton Roth both scored 3 runs each for the Cowgirls.
Freshman, Abigail Martinez started the game for the Lady Irish and pitched 2 innings. She suffered the loss for Chapman. Sophomore, Haylee Welsh pitched the final 2 innings for the Lady Irish.
Cowgirls 12 Chapman 4
In a repeat of Game 1, the Abilene Cowgirls used a big second inning to blow the game open. Abilene scored 8 runs in the second inning and sent 12 batters to the plate. Welsh started the game for Chapman but was replaced in the 2nd by Martinez. Martinez faced the final 8 batters of the inning and finished the game for the Lady Irish.
Roth went the distance for Abilene in the victory. She gave up 5 hits over 7 innings and struck out the side in the 7th to end the game. Roth was also effective at the plate all day long. She reached base in all 5 at-bats in the second game and only once failed to reach base on the day.
Abilene improved to 6-12, 6-2 with the victory while Chapman dropped to 0-14, 0-6 with the loss. The Abilene Cowboy baseball team continued to roll Tuesday night. They won Game 1, 12-0 in 5 innings and won Game 2, 17-2 in 3 innings. Abilene has now won 9 of 10 games and is 9-7, 6-0. The have a double-header Friday at home vs Wamego. The Red Raiders are tied for first in the NCKL with Clay Center, both teams are 5-1. The Cowboys will wrap up the regular season May 14 at Clay Center.
