Dickinson County 4-H Celebrates National 4-H Week
Beyond Ready, the theme for this year’s National 4-H Week, October 6th through 12th, celebrates the fact that for over 120 years, 4-H has been preparing youth to be ready for the challenges they’ll face in a lifetime.
Since 1902 4-H’s impact on youth has stood the test of time with a tried-and-true, research-backed approach to helping kids reach their potential.
Kids who participate in 4-H programs are more likely to make healthy choices, serve their communities, and live with purpose. They are 97% more likely to get along with those different than themselves. They have dreams that are fueled by their unique passions and aspirations to lead with intentionality. They are more likely than their non-4-H peers to feel competent, positive, and confident in what the future holds. And with the help of 4-H, 84% have identified a career path before high school graduation.
Dickinson County 4-H will observe National 4-H Week this year by celebrating the inspirational 4-H youth and volunteers who are working tirelessly to support each other and their communities. To support this effort, the Dickinson County Commissioners have proclaimed October 6-12, 2024, as Dickinson County 4-H Week and, “encourage all of our citizens to recognize 4-H for the significant impact it has made and continues to make by empowering youth with the skills they need to lead for a lifetime.”
Dickinson County volunteer leaders spark youth’s interest in many areas for hands on learning. Eleven community-based 4-H clubs are available to youth in Dickinson County. Clubs include:
· Chapman Shamrocks
· Detroit Ramblers
· Fragrant Hilltoppers
· Holland Sunflowers
· Jolly Jayhawkers
· Mt. Ayr Go-Getters
· Navarre Boosters
· Newbern Wideawakes
· Sand Springs Rustlers
· Solomon Wranglers
· Willowdale
